Who We Support

As a clinical health psychologist, I specialize in the emotional and psychological impact of chronic disease—helping individuals navigate the challenges of living with, managing, and treating health conditions.

1. People who live with a medical condition

A medical condition—new or ongoing—can shift how you see yourself and your life. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or disconnected from live as you knew it. I help people adjust to difficult news, cope with the emotional ups and downs of illness, and move forward with more ease.

Common concerns include:

  • Difficulty adjusting to a new diagnosis or disease progression
  • Loss of independence or identity
  • Anxiety, depression, or medical trauma
  • Trouble balancing health with daily life
  • Feeling uneasy in healthcare settings

2. People who love and care for someone with a medical condition

Caring for a loved one with a chronic health condition can be deeply meaningful—but also exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming. I can help you process difficult emotions like grief or guilt, while finding ways to care for yourself alongside your loved one.

Common concerns include:

  • Feeling drained and overwhelmed
  • Shifts in relationship dynamics
  • Grief, guilt, or helplessness
  • Difficulty making space for yourself
  • Difficulty coping with uncertainty and the long-term impact of illness

3. People who treat medical conditions

As a healthcare provider, you’re trained to care for others—but the emotional toll of this work is real. Whether you’re feeling drained by patient care, navigating systemic barriers, or questioning how to sustain yourself in this work, I offer both therapy and consultation to support your well-being and growth.

Common concerns include:

  • Compassion fatigue and burnout
  • Systemic challenges in healthcare
  • Grief and moral distress
  • Work-life balance and boundaries
  • Struggling with complex patient interactions

Types of Services

Therapy

Therapy can help you regain your footing when navigating the emotional complexities of medical illness and the systems that treat it.

In therapy, we explore your unique experiences, strengthen resilience, and develop strategies to help you navigate your challenges with greater ease.

Consultation

I offer consultation services for healthcare providers who face challenges in caring for individuals with medical conditions. If you’re struggling with difficult patient interactions, emotional fatigue, or the demands of your role, consultation provides guidance, tools, and strategies to help you manage these challenges more effectively.

Assessment

I offer psychological assessments for individuals seeking to better understand their emotional and psychological responses to medical illness. An assessment may clarify your coping patterns and provide personalized treatment recommendations to better support your well-being.

Note: I do not currently provide psychological assessments related to Workers Compensation Board, Long-Term Disability claims, or legal matters.

Therapy vs. Consultation for Healthcare Providers:
What’s Right for You?

If you’re a healthcare provider experiencing stress or burnout, you might wonder whether therapy or consultation is the best fit. While both offer support, they serve different purposes:

Consultation is a targeted approach designed to address specific professional challenges. It provides practical guidance, strategies, and skill-building to help you navigate difficulties in your practice. Whether you need help with complex patient interactions, setting boundaries, or managing the emotional demands of caregiving, consultation offers structured support for these challenges. It’s ideal for healthcare providers seeking new tools and insights to enhance their work and better manage the pressures of their role.

Therapy is a deeper, more personalized process focused on emotional well-being. It offers a space to explore distressing emotions, recognize patterns, and develop healthier coping strategies—whether related to your work or other areas of life. Therapy helps you process the emotional weight of your role, address feelings of distress, exhaustion, or frustration, and reconnect with your purpose and passion for your work. It’s an opportunity to reflect on personal challenges and prevent burnout, ensuring your emotional well-being is maintained as you care for others.

Consultation

Consultation addresses specific professional challenges. It provides practical guidance, strategies, and skill-building to help you navigate difficulties in your practice (for example, complex patient interactions).  It’s ideal for healthcare providers seeking new tools and insights to enhance their work and better manage the pressures of their role.

Therapy

Therapy is a personal process centered on emotional well-being. It offers a space to explore difficult emotions, recognize patterns, and build healthier coping strategies—whether work-related or not. Therapy helps you process the emotional weight of your role, address feelings of distress, exhaustion, or frustration, and reconnect with your purpose and passion for your work.

FAQ's

No, at this time, I only work with adults.

As a health psychologist, I am skilled at helping patients with most psychological impacts of most medical conditions. The main exception is that I do not provide psychological services for the cognitive symptoms of illness or injury (e.g., memory, attention & concentration, inhibition, executive function difficulties). If you are looking for specific assistance with cognitive changes related to an illness, please contact me to discuss.

Telepsychology is therapy delivered online through secure video conferencing platforms. Research shows that telepsychology is as effective as in-person therapy for many individuals. It offers the same therapeutic benefits, such as building a strong therapeutic relationship, providing emotional support, and helping clients develop coping strategies.

Telepsychology is a great option if you’re comfortable using technology and want to access therapy from a location that works best for you. It’s also ideal if you have limited access to in-person therapy or prefer the convenience and privacy of attending sessions from home.

To prepare for your telepsychology session, ensure you have a reliable internet connection and a private, quiet space where you won’t be interrupted. You may also want to test your audio and video settings before the session begins.

You can book a session by contacting me directly via email or phone, or online by clicking here. After booking, you’ll receive intake and consent forms to complete before our first session. If you’re unsure about the process, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes for follow-up appointments and 75 minutes for the initial intake session. These are the standard lengths, but we can discuss any adjustments if needed.

For an intake session, the fee is $335 for 75 minutes. Follow-up sessions are billed at $225 for 50 minutes. Fees for consultations or assessments may vary. You can find more details about pricing on the Services page or by contacting me directly.

I currently do not offer direct billing. Most insurance providers offer reimbursement for psychological assessment and therapy. I can provide you with a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement through your insurance provider, but please ensure your health benefits plan provides reimbursement for the type of psychological service you are seeking.

I am only able to offer services to residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island due to licensing regulations. If you live in Newfoundland and are seeking my support, please contact me to discuss.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please refer to the crisis support numbers listed on the Resources page. I do not provide emergency services but my Resources page can help guide you toward appropriate resources.
